A little book, The Way of a Worshiper, by Buddy Owens, led to my writing Dear Diary. Buddy advises us to read for depth, not distance, to meditate on a passage of Scripture rather than simply read through it and move on. I began to take a leisurely stroll through the Bible, one neighborhood at a time, stopping to notice the scenery and the people. I imagined myself in a scene and wondered what I might have said and felt.

As Owens says, God isn’t simply lecturing us on the rules. He wants to have a two-way conversation with us. When we read, we listen while He speaks. Then, we might repeat in our own words what we have read and ask Him questions. He becomes not only our God and King and Father, but also our Friend. I find myself talking with Him more throughout the day.

Dear Diary contains entries from thirty people in the Bible. It is important to first read the actual Scripture reference given before each entry. Then, discover what I imagined the people might have written, and imagine what you might have written if you were there.
